When you are conscious, your body is constantly using energy to process between 2-10 billion bits of information every second. So, the shoes you're wearing, the sounds in the room, the air on your skin, gravity pushing down on you - your body processes these sensations and has to send those signals to your brain. That takes a lot of energy from your nerves and brain to complete!
When you step into the Float Tank, the first thing you will notice is that it’s just like a warm salt-water relaxing bath. The water temperature is kept at the same temperature as your skin and your body will float because of the high concentration of Epsom salt. Because of this, you don't feel gravity pushing down on your body or your joints. In this state, there is no proprioceptive information being sent through the body and you can't see or hear anything, so you save the energy used to process those signals – now, that saved energy can be used for other things throughout the body.
Of course, you can't remove all signals and stimuli, but let's say you cut it in half. That's 50% more energy that your nerves can use to heal, correct or improve issues throughout the body! We want to use the float tank experience to treat the problems in the body, to relieve tension and stress and to get rid of inflammation, therefore, stimulating healing.
We are so proud to say that Acadiana Pain & Performance is the first in the nation to have this float experience integrated with the current healing treatments that we offer.
Having you in the float tank right after treatment will not only increase blood flow because you're relaxing the mind and body, but it will also give the nerves and tissues extra energy to go through the healing and recovery process. In simple terms…this will get you better FASTER!
It is really a great asset to your routine, because we get all the meditative and mental benefits of reducing the stress on the mind while getting the improved physical healing.
You can add this to your current treatment/scheduled appointment or as a standalone service.

Frequently Asked Questions
How should I prepare for my float?
We suggest eating a light meal about an hour before you float to keep your stomach from growling during your float. Also, don’t shave or wax immediately prior to floating – the salt will irritate the fresh skin if you’ve recently shaved or waxed.
Do I need to bring anything with me?
We provide: ear plugs, soap, shampoo, conditioner, towels, a robe, ear swabs and Vaseline to cover any small cuts. You are welcomed to bring any other personal toiletries that would make you comfortable.
What do I wear while floating?
The float room is private, so it is completely up to you to float with a swimsuit on or in the nude. Since we are trying to remove all external stimuli, keep in mind that clothing may inhibit that. Because of that, we suggest floating nude.
For sanitation purposes, the water is constantly filtered and a cleaning cycle is run between each float session.
How is the water cleaned?
Because of the Epsom salt content (about 1,000 pounds!) , it is impossible for bacteria or any other micro-organisms to grow. Again, for sanitation purposes, the water is constantly filtered and a cleaning cycle is run between each float session.
I can’t swim. Will I sink?
With the high salt content in the water, you will effortlessly float. It is IMPOSSIBLE to sink.
Do I shower before and after floating?
Yes. You are required to take a shower here before and it is recommended after floating. The first shower is to make sure that you are all clean and free of oils, perfumes, etc. on your skin and hair. This is also respectful to people that float after you. The second shower is to remove the salt from your body and to condition your hair.
We provide the body wash, shampoo, conditioner, towels and a robe for your walk to the float pod.
Can I float if pregnant?
Yes and no! Floating is great for pregnant women because it removes the effects of gravity, therefore taking the pressure off the low back. Also, the Epsom salt can help with mild swelling.
However, floating during the 1st trimester is not recommended. Because every pregnancy is different, you should still check with your OB before floating.
Are there any contraindications?
You should speak with your doctor if you have:
-Epilepsy or serious mental conditions
-Severe respiratory conditions
-High risk pregnancy
You cannot float if you have:
-An infectious skin disorder
-Incontinence
-Open wounds (a small cut is okay)
-Colored or permed hair within 2 weeks
-A tattoo less than 2 weeks old
-Under the influence of any drug or alcohol
How often should I float?
As often as you would like! We find that the noticeable benefits last beyond a day, but for best results, we recommend regular sessions.
Most patients find that 1-2 times a week is most beneficial.
How long is a float session?
Basic sessions are 60 minutes long. You may request a longer session and corresponding prices.
What is it going to feel like for me?
We can’t tell you what it’s going to feel like because it’s such an individual experience. Nearly every patient reports a feeling of peace, relaxation, deeper concentration, increased creativity, feeling grounded and an overall feeling of wellness.
