DRY NEEDLING

Dry needling is a treatment that uses tiny mono-filament needles to stimulate the healing response in your body. This works on various different mechanisms. It can:

 - Stimulate and normalize the healing process
 - Increase blood flow to muscles, nerves, and tissue to increase healing
 - Relax muscles that are spastic or tight
 - Remodel scar tissue that is causing pain
 - "Reset" nerves that are hypersensitive or overactive
 - Activate weak or inhibited muscles

What is a treatment like?
 - The initial treatment feels like you are tapped with a toothpick lightly
 - Occasionally you feel a tight muscle "twitch" and relax immediately
 - Most patients report that the treatment is completely pain-free

With each treatment a healing response is activated inside your body. This process occurs at different rates, but it can take up to two weeks to achieve maximum effectiveness of the treatment. Our current data suggests that to obtain the optimal long-term benefits from dry needling, 4-12 treatments may be needed, however, every case is different and we let your healing dictate treatment, not numbers and data.

Dr. Hines is an expert in the use of dry needling for pain relief.  He is certified in Integrative Dry Needling through the American Dry Needling Institute and is currently involved in research with the use of dry needling combined with manual therapy for the treatment of mechanical neck pain.
